SCOPE
The School of Science and Technology, Gunma University was originally established as a private school by the citizen of Kiryu in 1896 for education of textile technology, which was the state-of-art technology in Japan. Beyond a century, the activity has expanded to the wider fields, including chemistry, biology, and mechanics, electronics, informatics, and civil engineering, but the cutting-edges of textile technology still survive in each filed. For example, 2-dimensional (2D) geometry of textiles composed of 1D fibers is similar to membrane architecture where 1D molecules are closely packed. Various elemental atoms also form 2D surfaces, which is often used as device substrate. In 4th Gunma International Symposium on Membranes, 2D Matters and Device Applications (GIS 2018), all the researchers with the interests for such dimensionally restricted materials are very welcome to participate. We believe that texturing the wider backgrounds releases the past restriction of the fields, giving renaissance of textured materials from Kiryu.
The S-membrane porject is carried out with the cooperation of Organization to Promote Research and University-Industry Collaboration of Gunma University.
